Amazon Prime Video has commissioned a series adaptation of Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels, with Hero Fiennes Tiffin set to play the lead role. This information comes from Variety.
Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. This project marks a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who recently collaborated on the film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” Ritchie is no stranger to the Sherlock Holmes universe, having directed two films featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.
“In ‘Young Sherlock,’ we will see an exciting new version of the detective in ways never imagined before,” Ritchie said. “We’ll delve into this mysterious character, understand what drives him, and see how he becomes the genius we all know and love.”
Matthew Parkhill, known for “Deep State” and “Rogue,” will serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Ritchie and Lane will be joined by Simon Kelton of Inspirational Entertainment, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell of Motive Pictures, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and former Amazon head of series development Marc Resteghini as executive producers. Harriet Creelman will co-executive produce for Motive Pictures. The series is being produced by Motive Pictures.
Kelton initially developed the project with Atkinson before teaming up with Motive, Gilbert, and Resteghini to present it to Amazon MGM Studios, where Gilbert and Resteghini have overall deals.
The “Young Sherlock Holmes” series by Lane includes eight books, the latest of which was published in 2015. The Amazon series is described as an “action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective.” At 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced and raw, finding himself embroiled in a murder mystery at Oxford University that threatens his freedom. As he tackles his first case with a lack of discipline, he uncovers a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life.
“This new chapter about one of the world’s most famous literary characters will captivate our global audience with its compelling storytelling,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “With the exceptional creative team led by Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill, we will explore untold mysteries of young Sherlock’s journey to becoming a truth-seeker.”
Hero Fiennes Tiffin, in addition to his role in “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” has appeared in films such as “The Woman King,” “The Loneliest Boy in the World,” “First Love,” the “After” series, and “The Silencing.” He is also recognized for playing young Tom Riddle in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
Tiffin is represented by CAA, Vybe Trybe, The Artists Partnership, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Ritchie is represented by WME.
