Amber Portwood, known for her role on the reality TV show ‘Teen Mom,’ has been slapped with a $59,000 tax lien by the state of California. The news was initially reported by In Touch Weekly, and further details have since been disclosed.
Despite residing in Indiana, Portwood was notified on April 18 of the state tax lien claiming she owes $59,220 in unpaid taxes from the 2020 tax year. The address listed on the lien as her last known residence is a mansion in Malibu, California, where her ex and father of her child, Andrew Glennon, resides with his family. It is important to note that the tax liability is tied solely to Portwood, with no financial connection to Glennon.
The documents, accessed by The Ashley, suggest that the taxes owed could be related to personal income earned in California or corporation tax. The outstanding amount will accumulate additional fees and interest until settled, potentially impacting Portwood’s property ownership.
This isn’t Portwood’s first encounter with tax issues; she previously faced a federal tax lien in 2016 for over $134,000 due to unpaid income taxes. Similarly, her ‘Teen Mom’ colleague Maci Bookout encountered her own tax difficulties in California, owing the state over $26,000 last year, with her debt increasing this year due to two new federal liens totaling more than $150,000.
As of now, Portwood has not publicly commented on her recent tax lien, which may have come as a surprise if she only became aware of it after the lien was reported, given it was sent to Glennon’s address.
Portwood is set to appear in the upcoming Season 2 of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter,’ which premieres this Thursday on MTV. It remains unclear if her tax issues will be featured on the show.
