In a heartfelt revelation to People magazine, television personality Wendy Williams has disclosed her diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, expressing profound gratitude for the public support received since the announcement.
Williams, known for her vibrant presence on “The Wendy Williams Show,” which concluded in 2022 amidst much speculation, emphasized the comfort she found in the global support. “The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion,” Williams stated.
She hopes her openness about her condition will help others facing similar challenges and acknowledged the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration for their support and efforts to raise awareness about the disease.
Despite her diagnosis, Williams affirmed her need for “personal space and peace to thrive,” while appreciating the continuous encouragement from her fans. Her diagnosis was first made public by her representatives in 2023, aiming to clarify rumors about her professional life and personal health challenges.
Williams’ team recently shared an update on her condition, noting that she remains independent in many aspects of her daily life and retains her characteristic humor. “She is receiving the care required to ensure she is protected and that her needs are addressed,” her representatives said, highlighting the ongoing support and good wishes from her community.
Aphasia, which Williams suffers from, is a neurological syndrome that impairs communication, affecting the ability to express thoughts and compromising speech and writing skills. Frontotemporal dementia, another aspect of her diagnosis, is an incurable condition that results from damage to the brain’s left side, leading to progressive language and communication deterioration.
