Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez appear to maintain a united front.
A source familiar with both the actor-director, 51, and actress-singer, 54, told PEOPLE that their joint appearance at Affleck’s 12-year-old son Samuel’s recent basketball game indicates they are managing their relationship challenges well.
“It’s a good sign they were at the game together,” the insider said of Affleck and Lopez’s presence at the event, where Affleck’s ex-wife and Samuel’s mother, Jennifer Garner, was also seen.
Those close to the couple’s circle say it’s uncertain what the future holds for the couple, whose marriage has been under strain.
Three days before the game on June 2, Lopez and Affleck were seen holding hands at his 18-year-old daughter Violet’s high school graduation ceremony. (Affleck and Garner, 52, also have another daughter, Seraphina, 15.)

Lopez’s attendance at Sunday’s game came two days after Live Nation announced the cancellation of her This Is Me… Live tour because the “Waiting for Tonight” singer is “taking time off to be with her children, family, and close friends.”
A source close to Lopez told PEOPLE on Monday, June 3, that she is “devastated” to call off her summer concert series but understands the importance of spending extra time with her loved ones.
“Life is a lot right now. As sad as she was to cancel the tour, she’s also relieved. She needs to take care of herself,” said the insider.
“The decision was something that her team encouraged,” the source added. “Everyone is supportive of her focusing on family right now.”
Despite the recent strain in their marriage, a source told PEOPLE on Friday, May 31, that Affleck and Lopez “still want to put the kids first,” adding that “Jennifer and Ben have always been very family-oriented.”
“The graduation was a big deal,” the insider said of Violet’s significant academic milestone. “Jennifer wanted to celebrate it.”
Still, the current situation has “been heartbreaking for her,” added the source.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their early-2000s relationship in 2021 and share a blended family. Aside from being a stepmom to Affleck’s three kids with Garner, Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
