Shania Twain Teases Changing Her Iconic Brad Pitt Lyric in ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’.
The country star hinted at a potential change, swapping out Brad Pitt for Harry Styles in her famous song during an upcoming performance.
Is Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much” about to get a modern update?
On June 3, during an appearance on the BBC podcast Sidetracked with Annie and Nick, the 58-year-old country star suggested she might replace the Brad Pitt reference in her 1997 hit song with another heartthrob. In the original track, Twain sings, “OK, so you’re Brad Pitt / That don’t impress me much.”
When asked if she would swap out Brad Pitt for someone else if she were writing the lyrics today, Twain hinted that she might make the change during her performance at the Glastonbury Festival in England on June 30. “I would say Harry Styles . . . and it sings good too,” Twain said.
She elaborated, “I sort of see Brad Pitt as a James Dean of his generation, and I see Harry Styles as that as well. He’s rugged but pretty; it’s like a charm that he has.”
Twain also shared that this wouldn’t be the first time she’s swapped out Pitt for another celebrity. “At a live show, I cheekily [sang] Ryan Reynolds since he was there,” Twain recalled. “It was very cute.”
In a January 2023 interview with Today.com, Twain remembered meeting Styles, 30, backstage at one of his shows when “he was just really on his way up.” Styles mentioned that he listened to Twain’s music with his mom while growing up. In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Styles said that Twain influenced his music and fashion, calling her “amazing.”
Styles later covered “Still the One” with his then-opening tour act Kacey Musgraves in 2018 and asked Twain to call his mom for her birthday. Twain told Today.com in 2023 that they have “stayed in touch ever since.”
Years later, Styles invited Twain to join him onstage at Coachella in 2022, where they performed “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” and “Still the One” together. In a 2023 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Twain shared that she “almost missed” the Coachella performance because she was out of the country for the first weekend.
“I said, ‘Well, I’m not going to be there [the first weekend], but I’ll come on the second weekend,’” Twain explained. “He said, ‘OK,’ and then he comes back to me and says, ‘I really want you to do the first weekend.’ Like, ‘Is there any way?’ And I’m like, ‘Ah.’ You know?”
“I didn’t realize the significance of that moment. I just saw it as a moment to get together with Harry, but I didn’t see it as such a landmark moment. It was such a wonderful surprise, everyone’s reaction.”
Twain is set to perform at the Glastonbury Festival alongside other artists like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, and more.
