Whoopi Goldberg Ate Cat Treats at 2 a.m. Thinking They Were Pretzels: ‘I Was Not High’.
The View cohost Whoopi Goldberg recently shared an amusing incident where she mistook cat treats for pretzels during a late-night snack.
On the June 17 episode of The View, Goldberg, 68, recounted how she accidentally ate cat treats instead of pretzels. She had just returned from Italy, where she met Pope Francis with other comedians.
“I got home and I might have been more jet lagged than I realized. I was not high. I had nothing to drink,” Goldberg began.
She continued, “It was 2 a.m., and I wanted some Dot’s Pretzels, which I love. Sometimes when you get a bag, they’re broken in half.”
Goldberg then explained how her daughter, Alex Martin, 51, was partly responsible for the mix-up.
“My kid left some cat treats next to my bag of pretzels so the cat could get them. But she put the cat treats right next to the Dot’s! So at 2 a.m., you know what’s coming.”
Goldberg described how she woke up in the middle of the night, disoriented, and reached for a quick bite.
“I reach over, pour some Dot’s in my hand, and put them in my mouth. I thought, ‘These might be a little stale!’” she hilariously recounted.
Fellow cohost Sunny Hostin asked if she thought it was a new flavor, but Goldberg dismissed that idea.
“No, no. I poured more in because I thought it might be bed mouth. You know, when you wake up and have a bad taste in your mouth. But I poured more and thought, ‘Why do these taste so bad?’ My eye finally opened, and I saw the crabby flavor Temptations cat treats in my hand.”
Despite the mishap, Goldberg found humor in the situation.
“Now I just came from the Vatican, and I am eating Crabby Crab flavor Temptations,” she joked.
Ana Navarro added, “Well, that shows you, God has a sense of humor!”
Goldberg concluded her story with a laugh.
Recently, The View has seen some harmless mayhem. On June 14, a crew member accidentally dropped a cake meant for Alyssa Farah Griffin’s early birthday celebration. Instead, they gave her cookies from Milk Bar. Farah Griffin, who turned 35 on June 15, took the mistake in stride.
Joy Behar explained, “We had a gorgeous cake for you, but the crew dropped it.” A picture of the fallen cake, frosting smeared all over the floor, was shown.
Farah Griffin joked, “Is that a metaphor, probably?”
Behar added, “We want to wish you a happy birthday. Have a cookie.”
