Jason Momoa has expressed his congratulations to Amber Heard, his co-star from the Aquaman films, as she embarks on her journey into parenthood.
The 41-year-old actor, known for his role as Aquaman, shares two children, Lola (13½) and Nakoa-Wolf (12½), with his wife Lisa Bonet. On Thursday, Momoa commented on Heard’s Instagram post, where she announced the birth of her daughter, Oonagh Paige, born on April 8 and now 12 weeks old.
“Congratulations ,” wrote Momoa. Heard stars as Mera, a warrior from Atlantis, alongside Momoa in the DC superhero films.
Andie MacDowell, Heard’s co-star from Magic Mike XXL, also congratulated her, commenting, “Congratulations. It’s absolutely the best part of life.”
In her Instagram post, Heard shared a photo of herself holding Oonagh. She revealed that she had been planning for years to become a mother and wanted to do it on her own terms.
“I’m thrilled to share this news with you. Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms. I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way,” Heard wrote.
“I hope we arrive at a point where it’s normalized to not need a ring in order to have a crib. A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this,” she continued. “My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”
It appears that Heard named her daughter after her late mother, Paige, who passed away in May 2020.
This happy news for Heard comes amid her ongoing legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp over her allegations of domestic violence. Depp’s defamation case against Heard, filed in Virginia, has been delayed to April 2022 due to the pandemic. Additionally, a related libel case that Depp brought against the Sun newspaper in the U.K. was dismissed in November.
In November 2020, Heard confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she would return for the Aquaman sequel, now titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In May, she teased on Instagram with photos of herself signing autographs, writing, “The best part of being Mera is meeting everyone she inspires. Ready for round two? .”
