The creator, writer, and director of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong-hyuk, along with the show’s main actors Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Jun, are scheduled to attend Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games festival on October 31. Their presence aims to give fans a glimpse of what to expect in the highly anticipated second season of the hit Netflix series.
Set to debut on Netflix before the year concludes, the second season of “Squid Game” promises a pivotal moment for its protagonist Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae. Winner of an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Gi-hun alters his plans to leave for the U.S. after a mysterious phone call, embarking instead on a new mission.
Returning characters from the first season, such as the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and the Recruiter (Gong Yoo), will also feature prominently. Joining the cast are new members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, as confirmed by Netflix.
It remains unclear whether the festival will showcase episodes or exclusive previews of “Squid Game 2,” which released its trailer in February. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the first Asian to win an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, will resume his multifaceted role as director, writer, and producer for the new season.
Lucca Comics, scheduled from October 30 to November 3, is a renowned gathering for enthusiasts of comics and gaming set amidst the ancient walls of Lucca, Italy. Drawing over 200,000 attendees annually, the event will also feature appearances by Japan’s Tatsuya Nagamine, known for directing Toei Animation productions like “One Piece” and “Dragon Ball Super: Broly.”
