A recent update on the filming of Avatar 3 suggests the comeback of two familiar faces. Following his 2009 blockbuster, director James Cameron revisited Pandora with Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022, continuing the saga of Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and his new adventures. Now, Cameron is diligently working on Avatar 3, set to introduce fresh characters while bringing back some beloved ones.
Actor Joel David Moore, known for his role as Norm Spellman in the previous films, confirmed his return to New Zealand for further filming of Avatar 3 in a recent social media post. Moore’s post included several images, one featuring Giovanni Ribisi, reprising his role as Parker Selfridge in the upcoming movie. Another image included Dileep Rao, who plays Dr. Max Patel. The final image was a nostalgic throwback to Moore, Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Michelle Rodriguez during the original film’s production.
Parker Selfridge, portrayed as a secondary antagonist in the original Avatar, represented the profit-driven interests of the RDA in mining unobtanium on Pandora. Surviving the events of the first film, Selfridge briefly appeared in Avatar: The Way of Water and is confirmed to return in Avatar 3, with producer Jon Landau indicating a more significant role ahead. His return suggests a potential continuation of RDA’s agenda on Pandora, possibly involving a new substance called Amrita, which halts aging in humans.
While Selfridge’s exact role remains under wraps, his return promises to deepen the narrative around RDA’s activities on Pandora, possibly intersecting with familiar characters like Jake and Quaritch (played by Stephen Lang). With the release of Avatar 3 still anticipated about a year and a half away, further details are expected to emerge closer to the premiere date.
