In Sunday’s episode of House of the Dragon, Emma D’Arcy’s character, Rhaenyra, made a surprise return to King’s Landing in a clever disguise to prevent escalating tensions with Alicent and her allies. Dressed as a septa to conceal her distinctive Targaryen hair, Rhaenyra’s presence in the sept alongside Alicent sparked a pivotal confrontation, based on a misunderstanding of King Viserys’ dying words.
Fans quickly noticed that D’Arcy’s costume resembled one previously worn by Hannah Waddingham in Game of Thrones, where she played Septa Unella. Waddingham playfully pointed this out on House of the Dragon’s official Instagram, humorously demanding, “That’s MY outfit!!! Get it off!!!!” alongside a photo of D’Arcy and Anthony Flanagan, who portrays Ser Steffon Darklyn.
Waddingham’s comment harked back to Septa Unella’s memorable scene in Game of Thrones’ Season 5 finale, where she famously walked behind a shamed Cersei, ringing a bell and chanting “Shame!”
Previously, Waddingham has candidly discussed the challenges of filming another iconic Game of Thrones scene, where Septa Unella faces Cersei’s brutal retaliation in the Season 6 finale.
