Julia Roberts’ Taylor Swift Fandom: From Onstage Appearances to Meeting Travis Kelce.
Award-winning actress Julia Roberts is a confirmed Swiftie. At 56, the “Leave the World Behind” star openly shares her love for Taylor Swift, often bringing her family to Swift’s concerts. Roberts even had the opportunity to join Swift onstage.
This memorable moment occurred during Swift’s 1989 Tour in Santa Clara, California, in August 2015, as the song “Style” played. Roberts has frequently discussed this experience, which also included a dance with Joan Baez.
In an interview with Extra TV that same month, Roberts recounted how the onstage moment was entirely spontaneous. She admitted she would have prepared more if she had known in advance.
“I would have washed my hair. I was, like, wearing a ponytail and leggings, tennis shoes,” Roberts said.
Just before the performance, Roberts met Swift backstage with her children — twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, who were 10 at the time, and Henry, who was 8. Swift invited Roberts to join her onstage.
“They had never been to a concert before and they were big fans,” Roberts recalled. “She said, ‘Would you mind coming on stage during the song and dancing?'”
Roberts sought her children’s opinions before agreeing. “’Oh, Mom, you have to do it!’ and my youngest son said, ‘Only do it if you want to, Mommy.’ It was so sweet!” she added.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 28, 2016, host Ellen DeGeneres highlighted their shared connection to Swift’s squad. DeGeneres, 66, played a clip of Roberts dancing with Baez at the 2015 concert. Roberts admitted she had never seen the footage before.
“I don’t think that should actually be viewed,” Roberts joked as DeGeneres critiqued her dancing.
DeGeneres then showcased her own onstage dance with Swift, where she wore a custom replica of Swift’s costume.
Roberts further expressed her admiration for Swift during a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in December 2023. She explained her fondness for the song “Betty” from Swift’s Folklore album, especially since her mother’s name was also Betty.
“I love ‘Betty’ and my mother’s name was Betty, so I particularly love ‘Betty,’” she said.
Recently, Roberts was seen at one of Swift’s Eras Tour stops in Dublin, where she chatted with Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Deaf artist and lip reader Jackie Gonzalez went viral for decoding their conversation, which seemed to show Roberts telling Kelce, “I’m so unusually happy for you guys, and I don’t mean to make you nervous, but it makes me so happy.”
