Renée Zellweger is embarking on a new venture.
The 55-year-old actress will star in and executive produce “Jane Smith,” a legal thriller drama, according to Deadline.
The series is based on the bestselling novel “12 Months to Live” by James Patterson and Mike Lupica. Max has picked up the project for development, with Miki Johnson from “Ozark” set as the writer and showrunner.
The story follows Jane Smith, a brilliant, tough, and darkly humorous defense attorney in the Hamptons. Jane, portrayed by Zellweger, has always been focused on winning. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when, on the eve of the most significant case of her career, she is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Despite the dire diagnosis, Jane is determined to solve the case, which becomes increasingly dangerous and personal.
“12 Months to Live” was published in September 2023 and is the first book in the Jane Smith series. The second book, “Hard to Kill,” is set to release on July 29. According to Deadline, the producers are considering multiple installments based on the subsequent novels.
