Kevin Hart is facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit from his former friend J.T. Jackson, stemming from the infamous sex tape extortion scandal. Jackson claims Hart failed to use the correct wording in a public apology, violating their settlement agreement.
TMZ obtained court documents revealing that Jackson alleges Hart initially made unfounded accusations about his involvement in filming and distributing the 2017 sex tape featuring Hart and Montia Sabbag. Jackson asserts that in 2021, they reached a settlement where Hart agreed to make a public apology and assist in rehabilitating Jackson’s public image.
According to Jackson, they had prepared a public statement for Hart to release. However, Jackson claims Hart deviated from the agreed-upon statement, particularly omitting a part where Hart was supposed to declare that Jackson had no role in any extortion plot. Jackson argues that Hart’s alteration of the statement deprived him of the intended benefit of the settlement, which was meant to restore his reputation and career.
Jackson faced four charges related to the alleged leaking of the tape, including attempted extortion, attempted concealing and selling stolen property, unauthorized use of personal ID, and identity theft. These charges were later dropped.
Now, Jackson is suing Hart for breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, and more, seeking at least $12 million in damages. He tells TMZ that this ordeal caused significant emotional distress for him and his wife, as well as professional setbacks, exacerbated by the deteriorated relationship with Hart, whom he considered a brother.
Jackson states, “It’s been three years since Kevin promised to help clear my name, to no avail. So here we are. Through this lawsuit, I aim to restore my reputation, seek accountability, and ensure that such injustices do not happen to others.”
