Taylor Swift continues to make headlines with her latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
According to Billboard, the album achieved 163,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending July 11, securing its 12th consecutive week at No. 1 since its debut in May.
This accomplishment surpasses Whitney Houston’s album ‘Whitney’ from 1987, making Taylor Swift the first female artist to maintain the top spot for the first 12 weeks of an album’s release. Previously, Houston’s album held the record with 11 weeks at No. 1.
Additionally, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ now stands as Taylor Swift’s longest-running No. 1 album to date.
Joining a select group of albums that have achieved this milestone, including Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing at a Time’ and Stevie Wonder’s ‘Songs in the Key of Life’, Taylor Swift’s achievement highlights her enduring popularity and influence in the music industry.
The last female artist to dominate the charts for at least 12 weeks was Adele with her album ’21’, which spent a total of 24 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2011 and 2012.
Taylor Swift also extends her lead among solo artists with her 81st week atop the Billboard 200 chart, tying with Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums among soloists.
Contributing to the album’s success, sales were boosted significantly through Swift’s official webstore, which reintroduced seven previously released CD variants, including a signed edition, alongside three new digital album download options.
Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ continues to captivate audiences and solidify her position as a powerhouse in the music industry.
