US journalist Megyn Kelly has defended JD Vance, the Republican nominee for Vice President, and criticized actress Jennifer Aniston for her response to Vance’s controversial remarks about childless women.
The issue began with a 2021 Fox News interview where Vance described “childless cat ladies,” including political figures like Kamala Harris, as lacking a “direct stake” in the country. Recently, Aniston, who has openly discussed her struggles with infertility, reacted to these comments by sharing a screenshot of the interview on Instagram. She expressed concern for Vance’s young daughter, hoping she would not face infertility issues in the future due to Vance’s legislative opposition to IVF. “I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option because you are trying to take that away from her, too,” Aniston wrote.
Kelly, a former Fox News host, has sharply criticized Aniston’s response. “All this negativity has come down on him, suggesting he hates women and childless people, which is not true,” Kelly said.
However, Vance’s record shows his stance on reproductive issues. In June, he voted against the Right to IVF Act, which aimed to ensure the accessibility and affordability of IVF services across the US. Kelly also accused Aniston of being hypocritical for not addressing gender ideology and transgender issues. She questioned Aniston’s absence on issues affecting young girls, such as gender transition procedures and competing against boys in sports, which Kelly claimed led to severe physical consequences.
Kelly further criticized Aniston for what she saw as selective activism, acknowledging Aniston’s support for women’s rights but noting her lack of involvement in these specific issues previously.
In response to Aniston’s comments, JD Vance described them as “disgusting” and emphasized his commitment to supporting his daughter and families. He clarified that his “childless cat ladies” remark was intended as sarcasm and was not meant to criticize people without children but rather to address his concerns about the Democratic Party’s stance on family and children issues.
