During a speech in Nashville on Saturday, former President Donald Trump criticized pop star Miley Cyrus, moments after praising her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
“Billy Ray Cyrus is here. Where is Billy Ray? He’s around here someplace, and he’s great. He’s a conservative guy. I said, ‘How did you get such a liberal daughter?’ How had that happened, Billy Ray?” Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience at a Bitcoin conference, as seen in a clip posted on X.
Billy Ray’s appearance at the event follows a leaked audio tape in which he cursed out his soon-to-be ex-wife, Firerose, and referred to his second wife, Miley’s mother Tish, in derogatory terms.
Miley Cyrus has previously expressed strong opinions about Trump. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Grammy winner called him a “f—ing nightmare” on Instagram before his first presidential win and tearfully expressed her disappointment on Twitter, now X, after his 2016 victory.
Miley’s younger sister, Noah Cyrus, also shared her fears about Trump on social media. She posted a clip of Trump urging Christians to vote on her Instagram story, captioning it, “I’m terrified.”
Ironically, Trump once appeared to be a fan of Miley Cyrus. In 2013, he tweeted, “I am a defender of @MileyCyrus, who I think is a good person (and not because she stays at my hotels), but last night’s outfit must go!” He also reportedly enjoyed her controversial 2013 VMA performance with Robin Thicke. “I was staying at the Trump Hotel and Donald Trump literally called and said, basically, ‘I know everyone’s talking about it, but I loved it,’” Miley told The New York Times in 2015.
