Erica Ash, a multifaceted talent known for her roles in MadTV, Survivor’s Remorse, The Big Gay Sketch Show, and Real Husbands of Hollywood, has passed away at the age of 46. Ash, who was also a comedian, singer, and model, died after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer. According to a statement from her family, shared with NPR by her publicist, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
“Erica was an extraordinary woman and a gifted entertainer who impacted many lives with her sharp humor and vibrant spirit. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts,” the statement reads.
Ash’s career began on stage with notable performances in Baby It’s You on Broadway, a Disney touring production of The Lion King, and the Off-Broadway show Soul Doctor.
Growing up, Ash moved frequently due to her father’s career as a U.S. Army Captain and Chaplain, and her mother’s work as a math teacher. Her childhood included time spent in Germany. Ash later graduated from Emory University with a degree in premed. Despite this academic focus, she was passionate about performing from a young age. After graduating, she moved to Japan to pursue modeling, singing, and acting.
Tributes have poured in from fellow performers. Siedah Garrett expressed her sorrow, saying, “I am deeply moved by the passing of the talented and humorous Erica Ash. She kindly collaborated with me on an original skit for Netflix.”
Christopher Landon, who directed Ash in We Have A Ghost, wrote, “Erica Ash was a shining light—beautiful, funny, and immensely talented. It was a privilege to work with her and to call her my friend. My thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
