Taylor Swift has expressed her profound shock and sadness over the recent knife attack at a dance workshop themed around her music. The attack, which occurred on Hart Street, Southport, resulted in the deaths of three children and injuries to nine others.
In an Instagram post, Swift admitted she was “completely at a loss” for words to express her sympathy. She described the attack as a “horror,” noting the “loss of life and innocence” and the “horrendous trauma” inflicted on those present.
The tragedy, which unfolded on Monday, has led to a significant outpouring of support. Fans of Swift have raised over £180,000 through a crowdfunding campaign named “Swifties for Southport.” The funds will be donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where many of the injured are being treated.
The Taylor Swift UK & EU Facebook group, which organized the fundraiser, confirmed that the money would benefit the hospital’s charity. They also announced that part of the funds would be used to cover funeral expenses for two young victims of the attack.
Cristina Jones, a representative from the group, praised Swift’s heartfelt statement. She told BBC Newsbeat that Swift’s expression of sympathy was deeply meaningful and that the singer’s concern for the families affected was evident.
Jones also mentioned that the group was pleased with the amount raised and would soon discuss the funds with the hospital to ensure they make a significant impact.
The attack also critically injured two adults. A 17-year-old from Banks, Lancashire, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Police have stated that the motive behind the attack remains “unclear” but it is not being treated as terrorism.
