Chris Evans has unveiled a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring himself alongside Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and director Shawn Levy. In the snapshot, Evans is seen in costume as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four.
Evans, who made a surprise cameo in the film, is reprising his role as Johnny Storm for the first time in 17 years. The actor expressed his excitement about returning to the role in a heartfelt Instagram post. “Playing Johnny again was a dream come true, and he’ll always have a special place in my heart,” Evans wrote, accompanied by four fire emojis. He also thanked Reynolds, Jackman, and Levy for including him in the project, calling them “three of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet” and giving special recognition to Reynolds for making his cameo possible.
Before his iconic role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans portrayed Johnny Storm in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His return to the character in Deadpool & Wolverine was a brief but memorable experience.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Evans described his cameo as a straightforward shoot. “I just had to fly in real quick, do a couple days of filming, and fly out,” he said.
He noted that the portrayal of Johnny Storm in this film required less precision compared to his earlier roles. “For me, it was pretty easy,” Evans explained. “We find Johnny in a more rundown state, so the costume didn’t have to be pristine. The first two movies were very precise and involved many meetings and opinions. This time, it was more relaxed, with a better understanding of the character.”
