Taylor Swift recently paid tribute to U.S. Olympic stars Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Katie Ledecky in a new promotional video for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 34-year-old singer narrated the ad for NBC’s Primetime Olympics, which aired on August 3. The promo featured Swift’s hit song “Style” from her re-released album 1989.
The video showcased highlights from the Games, including Biles performing on the mat and Richardson sprinting on the track. Swift’s voiceover urged, “Never be afraid to show them who you are, especially when the whole world is watching.”
The ad also featured Ledecky diving into the pool during an Olympic event. Swift’s narration continued, “Because there’s no one way to be the best. No one way to inspire everyone else who will someday follow.”
The promo celebrated the athletes, showing Biles waving to the crowd after an impressive mat flip and Richardson high-fiving a fan. Swift’s message emphasized passion and dedication, with lyrics from her song reinforcing the sentiment: “We never go out of style.”
Swift’s video included scenes of Ledecky cheering in the pool, Biles smiling on the mat, and Richardson showcasing her painted nails. She offered a heartfelt shout-out to the Olympians, saying, “Katie, Sha’Carri, and Simone, three American stars, three different visions of greatness.”
The promo highlights the achievements of these athletes. Biles, with ten Olympic medals, earned three gold medals at this year’s Games. Ledecky, with over 14 Olympic medals, won four in Paris. Richardson clinched her first Olympic medal with a silver in the women’s 100-meter final on August 3.
Swift has previously honored U.S. Olympians and has a close connection with Biles. During the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials on June 27, Biles performed a floor routine set to Swift’s 2017 song, “…Ready For It?” Swift later reposted the routine on X, expressing her admiration.
After Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021 due to mental health reasons, Swift supported her with a video tribute set to her 2020 song “This Is Me Trying.” Swift acknowledged the scrutiny Biles faced, stating, “When you have the attention of the world, everything you do takes on a bigger meaning. It can be a heavy burden. It can be a chance to change everything.”
Biles responded on X, saying, “I’m crying. How special. I love you Taylor Swift.” Swift replied, “I cried watching YOU. I feel so lucky to have gotten to watch you all these years.
This week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”
