Chris Evans recently disclosed that he chose not to use cue cards during his cameo in “Deadpool and Wolverine.” Offered a chance to reprise his role as Johnny Storm from “Fantastic Four,” Evans felt the dialogue was compelling enough to memorize without prompts.
The actor, who received the cameo opportunity from Ryan Reynolds, expressed his enthusiasm for the role. At 43, Evans was keen to embrace the chance to revisit his character nearly two decades after his last portrayal.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Evans shared, “Ryan suggested, ‘If we need cue cards …’ and I responded, ‘Cue cards? I’m coming prepared. I don’t get to say dialogue like this every day. I’m going to enjoy every moment of this. I’ll have it memorized.’”
Evans recounted how the opportunity arose: “A few years ago, Ryan texted me, saying, ‘If you don’t like this idea, no problem. But I have something that could really make an impact and let you revisit a character from your past.’”
He added, “I would do anything Ryan asks. He had already given me a great cameo in ‘Free Guy’ in 2021. I trust him completely. So, the chance to play Johnny again was irresistible. It was a blast to shoot and to watch.”
Evans also expressed his gratitude to Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy for including him in the film. On Instagram, he wrote, “Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy for letting me be part of such an incredible movie! They are three of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Special thanks to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he will always hold a special place in my heart.”
