Mindy Kaling is opening up about her TV show crushes and starstruck experiences.
The 45-year-old actress recently joined Threads, a new social media platform from Instagram, where she has been engaging with fans through voice notes and text responses about classic television.
“I love talking on social media, and Threads gives me the perfect space to share my thoughts,” Kaling said in a post. She invited her followers to share their favorite comfort shows.
In response to a fan who mentioned that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: The Next Generation provided comfort during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kaling revealed her own admiration for the latter series. She admitted that she wished to be Deanna Troi, a character played by Marina Sirtis, and also had a crush on Data, portrayed by Brent Spiner.
Kaling also shared that Hugh Laurie, the actor known for his role in House, left her starstruck. “When I was on The Office, we often crossed paths with the House cast at award shows. I was thrilled to meet Hugh Laurie because I loved his work in Sense and Sensibility, the Emma Thompson adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel,” she explained.
She continued, “It was a perfect blend of my two favorite things: grumpy doctors and grumpy characters from Jane Austen novels.”
Kaling’s recent Threads posts also highlighted her favorite TV shows, including Hacks, Palm Royale, and Downton Abbey, along with nostalgic favorites such as The X-Files, 30 Rock, and Gilmore Girls.
Additionally, Kaling discussed the possibility of reviving her early 2000s fashion blog, Things I Bought and Loved. She said she would consider it if there is enough interest from her audience.
