Travis Kelce has made it clear that he won’t propose to Taylor Swift until they agree on a prenuptial agreement, sources say.
Taylor Swift, a billionaire largely due to her successful Eras Tour, and Travis Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion worth about $70 million, have been dating since last year.
Their relationship became public when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game last September, where she sat with Kelce’s mom, Donna, at Arrowhead Stadium.
According to a source quoted by Life and Style, the couple is ready to take the next step in their relationship. However, Kelce is reportedly waiting to propose until they sort out the financial details of a potential prenuptial agreement, which would protect both of their assets in case they ever split.
“This relationship is much more serious than Taylor or Travis publicly admit,” the source said. “They’ve considered themselves unofficially engaged for some time now. Both are fully committed to spending their lives together and starting a family. However, they want to finalize the prenup before Travis proposes.”
The couple’s busy schedules and the complexity of the prenup, given their large net worths, have caused delays. “Taylor wouldn’t consider walking down the aisle without a prenup in place. Both of them want to settle this before Travis gets down on one knee,” the source added.
Swift supported Kelce at 13 NFL games last season, including the Super Bowl, and he attended several of her concerts during his NFL offseason. Kelce, 34, recently signed a new two-year contract with the Chiefs worth around $17 million per season. He’s also reportedly negotiating a new deal for his podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his older brother Jason. The podcast’s popularity has surged due to Kelce’s relationship with Swift, with the new deal potentially worth around $100 million.
Swift is currently in London, finishing her four-month European tour with a series of shows at Wembley Stadium. She’s expected to return to Arrowhead Stadium when Kelce and the Chiefs kick off the NFL season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs could make history this season as the first team to win the Super Bowl three times in a row.
Despite her busy schedule with shows in the U.S. and Canada later this year, which overlaps with some of the Chiefs’ games, Swift plans to attend as many games as she can. Kelce has even upgraded his $6 million Kansas City mansion’s kitchen because Swift loves cooking and is expected to spend more time there.
Earlier this week, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes joked that Swift is the reason Kelce has been growing out his hair. In an interview with NFL Radio, Mahomes said, “I’ve been trying to get him to grow his hair out for a while, and now Taylor’s got him doing it.”
