Netflix has unveiled a casting call for the second season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” confirming the introduction of several key characters. Among the new faces set to appear are both familiar and fresh characters from the beloved franchise.
One of the highlights of the casting call is the confirmation of Toph’s appearance in the upcoming season. Netflix initiated a global search for the character back in June. Fans can expect an official announcement of the actress portraying Toph during Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024, which is scheduled for September 16th, just before production kicks off.
In addition to Toph, the casting call confirms the first live-action appearances of Lady Ursa (mother of Zuko and Azula), Long Feng, and The Earth King. There’s speculation that the show might integrate Ursa’s backstory from the comics into the series. In the comics, Ursa was initially engaged to another before being compelled to marry Prince Ozai due to her direct lineage to Avatar Roku. Ozai’s desire for a powerful heir, potentially stronger than the next Avatar, played a significant role in this union.
The casting call also introduces several new characters, including General Song, General Tran, and a mysterious figure named Bone Saw. It’s likely that both generals will be part of the Council of Five in Ba Sing Se, a group that the Dai Li eventually overthrow. As for Bone Saw, little is known about this character, but there is speculation that he could be an Earth Kingdom fighter in the underground fight club where Toph is first introduced.
Production for Season 2 is set to begin on October 7th in Vancouver.
