Former President Donald Trump has seemingly implied that Taylor Swift supports his presidential campaign by sharing altered images on social media. These images depict the pop star and her fans endorsing him, though they appear to be manipulated, with some likely generated by artificial intelligence.
In one of his posts, Trump included the message “I accept!” alongside the doctored images, which led to immediate backlash from Swift’s devoted fanbase, known as Swifties.
Many fans accused Trump of spreading misinformation, emphasizing that Swift has not endorsed any candidate in the 2024 election. In fact, she backed the Democratic Party in 2020 and openly criticized Trump during his presidency.
Among the images shared was one featuring Swift fans wearing t-shirts with the slogan “Swifties for Trump.” This image also carried a “satire” label and a headline that read: “Swifties turning to Trump after ISIS foiled Taylor Swift concert.”
The reference to ISIS relates to a recent incident in which Swift canceled three concerts in Vienna due to a possible security threat. Austrian police had arrested two individuals suspected of planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group.
Another image Trump shared mimicked a World War I U.S. Army recruiting poster, replacing Uncle Sam’s face with Swift’s and reading: “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”
NBC News confirmed that two of the images Trump reposted featured real women who are actual Trump supporters.
Swift has consistently supported the Democratic Party and was vocal during the 2020 election, particularly in the wake of nationwide protests following the murder of George Floyd by police. At the time, Swift condemned Trump’s actions on social media, accusing him of promoting white supremacy and threatening violence.
In a related matter, the BBC reported earlier this year that several deepfake images had surfaced online, portraying Black individuals as Trump supporters. However, there was no evidence directly linking these images to Trump’s campaign.
