In 2018, actor Rob Delaney faced a devastating loss when his young son, Henry, passed away from a brain tumor. This tragedy struck just a few months before the release of “Deadpool 2,” in which Delaney starred as Peter, a friend of the film’s main character, Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds.
On Monday, Ryan Reynolds took to social media to honor Henry’s memory and share how the upcoming film, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” acknowledges Delaney’s loss. Reynolds revealed that the film includes a special tribute to Henry in the credits.
“There’s so much more to @robdelaney than most people realize,” Reynolds wrote in his post. “He’s one of the most uniquely funny people I’ve ever met. He’s also an incredibly talented, insightful, and open writer. If you stay for the credits of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ you’ll see a note that says, ‘For Henry Delaney.’ Henry was Rob’s son, and Rob lost him to a brain tumor in 2018, just as we finished filming ‘Deadpool 2.'”
Reynolds expressed regret for not including a tribute to Henry in the credits of “Deadpool 2,” acknowledging that it had weighed on him ever since. However, by adding the dedication in the new film, he felt that Henry and Rob are now together on screen.
Along with his message, Reynolds shared an image of Delaney’s book, “A Heart That Beats,” which tells the story of Henry’s life and Delaney’s journey through love and loss.
Reynolds praised the book for its emotional depth and humor.
“Rob Delaney’s book, ‘A Heart That Beats,’ is a powerful read. It offers a deeply personal glimpse into his life while also providing comfort and entertainment to many,” Reynolds added. “Even though the subject is heavy, Rob’s ability to mix humor with his experiences makes it a compelling and relatable read, even for those who haven’t experienced such a loss.”
