Meghan Markle demonstrated the spirit of “women helping women” during her recent visit to Colombia with Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex attended a panel on August 18 that focused on supporting Afro-Colombian women.
During the discussion, Meghan noticed a fan was not positioned correctly. She got up from her seat, walked over, and adjusted the fan to direct it toward the panelists. This thoughtful act was captured on video, highlighting her natural inclination to help others. Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Márquez, who was present, applauded Meghan’s gesture, and other panelists expressed their gratitude.
After returning to her seat, Meghan said in Spanish, “Women helping women,” emphasizing the importance of making others comfortable.
She believes that when women feel at ease, they can perform at their best. Meghan remarked, “You see something wrong, you go to fix it. Maybe that’s just a very female thing.”
In addition to her kind gesture, Meghan showcased her Spanish-speaking skills. She spoke directly into the microphone without the aid of translation devices, expressing her appreciation for the warm welcome from Colombians and their rich culture. She also engaged with children at a kindergarten, sharing that her son Archie is three years old, just like one of the children.
Meghan supported Harry by translating his speeches at the Petronio Music Festival in Cali. During the panel, she passionately discussed the importance of ensuring young girls’ voices are heard. She reflected on her own experiences, noting how fortunate she was to receive recognition as a young girl, which is not the case for many girls around the world.
“For us and the work we do with the Archewell Foundation, it’s crucial that young girls feel their voices are being heard,” Meghan stated. She also highlighted the need to raise boys who respect and listen to young girls.
Meghan shared that her three-year-old daughter, Lilibet, is also beginning to express herself. She emphasized the importance of encouraging young girls to use their voices, creating a ripple effect of empowerment.
Throughout her visit, Meghan’s actions and words reinforced her commitment to empowering women and promoting equality. Her small gestures resonated deeply with those around her, showcasing her dedication to making a positive impact.
