The highly anticipated sequel, The Batman – Part II, is moving closer to production. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin recently provided an update on the film’s timeline, reassuring fans that filming will begin next year.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting The Batman 2, especially after the success of Matt Reeves’s The Batman in 2022. While attention has shifted to the spinoff series The Penguin, reports confirm that The Batman – Part II is also gaining momentum.
During an interview promoting his new show, Terminator Zero, Tomlin shared encouraging news about the sequel. He confirmed that filming is set to start in 2025, alleviating concerns that the creative team was delaying the project.
Tomlin expressed his admiration for Reeves, stating, “It’s shooting next year. We’re gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn’t be higher.
It’s the sequel to the first one.” He described working with Reeves as a valuable experience, emphasizing the director’s artistic vision and commitment to creating meaningful content. “To be part of that process is pretty unbelievable,” Tomlin added.
Several factors have contributed to the delays in production for The Batman – Part II. Initially, filming was scheduled to begin in November 2023, with a release date set for October 2025. However, the recent Hollywood strikes significantly impacted the timeline, halting script completion and filming activities as actors supported their unions. This situation pushed back the production schedule by several months.
The development of The Batman – Part II coincides with the establishment of DC Studios, led by James Gunn. Although The Batman exists as an Elseworlds property separate from the main DC Universe, discussions about its future direction are ongoing.
While Gunn is not expected to be involved in the creative aspects of The Batman – Part II, his role as co-CEO of DC Studios means he will oversee the film’s release under the studio’s banner.
With filming set to begin early next year, fans can look forward to a sequel that aims to honor the original film. As anticipation builds, the creative team, led by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is committed to delivering another captivating chapter in this Elseworlds saga. The Batman – Part II is poised to continue the story and expand the universe established in the first film.
