Jenna Ortega has spoken out against rumors that she is dating actor Johnny Depp, calling the speculation “ridiculous” and “baseless”. The 20-year-old actress, best known for her role in the Netflix series Wednesday, took to her Instagram stories to deny the rumors and ask people to stop spreading lies.
“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh,” Ortega wrote. “I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Depp’s representative also denied the rumors, stating that the actor has no personal or professional relationship with Ortega and will not appear alongside her in the upcoming film Beetlejuice 2.
The rumors began after the anonymous celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi claimed that the pair were spotted together on a date.
However, Ortega has now made it clear that she has never met or worked with Depp.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Ortega shared the craziest rumor she had heard about herself, saying, “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to ‘leave us alone.'” She added, “It’s so insane to me like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that.”
Ortega also mentioned that her co-star Richard E. Grant, with whom she is working on the film Death of a Unicorn, asked her about the rumors on set. “I was on set with [co-star] Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he just said ‘Oh so you and Johnny,’ and I laughed because — I don’t know that person,” she said.
The actress has previously expressed her desire to keep her personal life private, stating, “I don’t plan on speaking about my love life publicly, because that’s mine.”
Ortega’s response to the rumors has been met with widespread support online, with many fans praising her for speaking out against the speculation.
