Rebecca Ferguson has been cast in the film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s classic children’s book, The Magic Faraway Tree. The project is a collaboration between Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group, and Ashland Hill Media Finance.
In the film, Ferguson will portray Dame Snap, the strict headmistress of the story. The film follows the Thompson family as they move to the English countryside and discover a magical tree that leads to whimsical adventures. The cast includes Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nicola Coughlan, Nonso Anozie, and Jessica Gunning, among others.
Newcomers Delilah Bennett-Cardy, Billie Gadsdon, and Phoenix Laroche will play the Thompson children.
Osiberu expressed her excitement about the film, highlighting the vibrant celebrations of “Detty December” in Lagos, Nigeria. She noted that the film aims to capture the essence of the holiday season in a way that has not been done before.
Ferguson’s upcoming projects also include a Peaky Blinders movie alongside Cillian Murphy and a film titled Mercy with Chris Pratt. She stars and produces in the Apple series Silo, which will premiere its second season on November 15, 2024.
Director Ben Gregor praised Ferguson, calling her “a towering screen presence” and one of the finest actors of her generation. The film is produced by Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown of Neal Street Productions, along with Danny Perkins of Elysian Film Group and Jane Hooks.
The Magic Faraway Tree is adapted by Simon Farnaby, known for his work on Wonka and Paddington 2, and is currently in production at Shinfield Studios in England.
