Chiefs vs. Ravens Injury Report: Andy Reid Updates Status of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Positive News for Others.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an optimistic update on the team’s injury report ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. However, wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown will not participate in practice.
As the Chiefs prepare for their NFL season opener on Thursday night, Reid shared the mid-week injury report on Sunday. He confirmed that Brown is the only player not practicing. “Marquise is the only one not practicing today,” Reid stated.
This news is encouraging for the remaining members of the Chiefs’ 53-man roster. Key defensive players, including defensive tackle Chris Jones and safety Justin Reid, will continue to practice after missing time during the preseason. However, Brown’s absence will be significant as the Chiefs face the team that drafted him in 2019.
Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint injury during the first offensive play of the preseason on August 10. It has been uncertain whether he would be ready for the season opener. Fortunately, the Chiefs will have extra rest before their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but Brown’s recovery timeline remains unclear.
Jordan Foote of Kansas City Chiefs On SI noted that Brown’s injury is similar to one suffered by Tyreek Hill in 2019. Hill missed the first four games of the regular season after sustaining a similar injury. He returned to play after 35 days, while Brown has a 36-day window from his injury to the Bengals game on September 15.
It is difficult to predict whether Brown is ahead of, behind, or on track with Hill’s recovery timeline due to the uncommon nature of the injury. Reid mentioned on Friday that Brown’s progress has been “incredible,” but he ruled out the team’s No. 1 wide receiver nearly a week before the game. This approach may have been intended to keep the Ravens guessing about Brown’s potential return.
Unfortunately for both Brown and the Chiefs, his debut with the team will be delayed by at least one week. The silver lining is that, barring any injuries during practice, the Chiefs are otherwise healthy as they begin their campaign for a third consecutive championship.
