Lancôme has teamed up with Academy Award-winning director Damien Chazelle and actress Julia Roberts for its latest advertising campaign. This collaboration features a short film that highlights La vie Est belle L’Elixir, one of the brand’s most popular fragrances.
The film, scored by acclaimed composer Justin Hurwitz, draws inspiration from the Golden Age of cinema. It aims to capture the beauty and elegance of the Lancôme perfume, set against the stunning backdrop of Paris. Chazelle’s cinematic style and Roberts’ charming presence create a captivating universe that complements the fragrance.
Marie-Eve Schoettl and David Soussan, executive creative directors at Lancôme, praised Roberts as a “role model for so many women” who has always forged her own path.
They expressed their excitement about seeing Roberts and Chazelle craft a heartfelt comedic piece while enjoying themselves on set, whether in a creatively designed elevator or on the iconic rooftops of Paris.
Alongside the short film, a print campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti features Roberts prominently with the perfume. This project is just one of many collaborations between Lancôme and Roberts since she became the brand’s global ambassador in 2009.
Last year, Roberts appeared in a campaign for the same fragrance alongside other notable personalities, including Penelope Cruz, Isabella Rossellini, Zendaya, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Aya Nakamura, and HoYeon Jung. Lancôme’s strategy exemplifies effective celebrity and influencer marketing, partnering with carefully chosen figures who embody the brand’s identity and reinforcing its status as a global luxury brand.
Defining Joy with Lancôme And Roberts
The one-minute short film, titled “Happiness Starts with You,” opens with Roberts entering an elevator in a vibrant pink ball gown. Initially uncomfortable with her outfit, she questions whether attending a noisy party is worth the effort. Despite her discomfort, she shares a warm smile with the awestruck elevator attendant.
As the elevator reaches the penthouse, guests are surprised to find the attendant carrying Roberts’ dress, with Roberts nowhere in sight.
Instead, she has chosen to escape to the rooftop, where she enjoys the breathtaking Paris skyline, defining her own happiness. The film concludes with Roberts stating, “Happiness starts with you.”
This season has seen a surge in luxury perfume campaigns, with Dior recently unveiling megastar Rihanna as the new face of its iconic J’adore fragrance.
