Linkin Park has officially named Emily Armstrong, lead vocalist of the rock band Dead Sara, as their new co-lead singer. In addition to Armstrong, producer and songwriter Colin Brittain, known for his work with artists like G Flip, Illenium, and One OK Rock, has joined the group as their drummer, the band announced during a special live performance event on Thursday.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of a brand new single titled “The Emptiness Machine,” marking Linkin Park’s first new music in seven years. This track serves as the lead single for their upcoming album From Zero, which is set to be released on November 15 through Warner Records. This will be the band’s first full-length album since One More Light in 2017, which came out just two months before the passing of their former lead vocalist, Chester Bennington.
The band’s current lineup includes longtime members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, and Joe Hahn, along with new members Armstrong and Brittain. In support of the new album, Linkin Park will embark on a six-date world tour, with stops in major cities including Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul, and Bogotá.
The Road to A New Era
The announcement comes after a period of quiet reflection and collaboration. According to the band, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell, and Hahn had been meeting in recent years, experimenting with various musicians rather than attempting to “restart the band” in its previous form. In Armstrong and Brittain, the band found a strong connection, sparking a new creative phase for the group.
Reflecting on this new chapter, Shinoda explained, “Our first band name was Xero before we became Linkin Park. The album title From Zero is a nod to those early days and the journey we’re on now. Sonically and emotionally, it connects our past, present, and future — it’s our signature sound, but with new energy. We’ve made this album with love and appreciation for our bandmates, family, friends, and especially our fans. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited for what’s next.”
A New Sound with Familiar Roots
The new single “The Emptiness Machine” has been described as having the core DNA of Linkin Park, with Shinoda emphasizing that the band feels revitalized with its new lineup. “We’re really energized by this new music and the new members,” said Shinoda. “We’re weaving together the sounds people know us for while also exploring new directions.”

This announcement follows the release of Linkin Park’s Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) earlier this year. The collection, featuring 20 of the band’s greatest hits over the past two decades, included fan favorites like “In the End,” “Burn It Down,” and “Numb/Encore,” a collaboration with Jay-Z. It also included “Lost,” a track that helped push Meteora back into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
