Salma Hayek Pinault, the lead actress in Angelina Jolie’s upcoming film “Without Blood,” has revealed that Jolie’s sons Maddox and Pax were dedicated and professional contributors to the project. The film, which Jolie wrote, directed and produced, had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Hayek, who spoke about the experience at the PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly TIFF suite on September 8, praised the two boys for their work ethic and professionalism on set. Maddox and Pax served as assistant directors, acting as a liaison between Jolie and the other crew members.
“They were very hard working,” Hayek said of Jolie’s sons. The actress noted that Jolie was “very professional with them” and treated them like the rest of the crew, despite being demanding as a director. Initially, Hayek was playful with Maddox and Pax, but she soon realized she needed to treat them as professionals to avoid appearing disrespectful.
Hayek’s own 16-year-old daughter, Valentina, whom she shares with husband François-Henri Pinault, was also present on set. The actress described the experience as lovely and comfortable, especially when dealing with the complex characters and themes of the film, which include “sowing suffrage.”
“Without Blood” marks Jolie’s fifth directorial effort, following films like “In the Land of Blood and Honey” (2011), “Unbroken” (2014), “By the Sea” (2015), and “First They Killed My Father” (2017). The film is based on the 2002 book by Alessandro Baricco and tells the story of a woman (played by Hayek) who witnesses her family suffer shocking violence and the man (Demián Bichir) who inflicted it.
With Jolie’s sons proving to be dedicated crew members and the film’s intriguing premise, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of “Without Blood.” The film’s success at the Toronto International Film Festival has generated buzz, and audiences are eager to see how Jolie’s directorial vision and the cast’s performances bring this powerful story to life.
