Taylor Swift dominated the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, winning the coveted Video of the Year for her song “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. This victory marks a significant milestone for Swift, as she has now amassed a record-breaking total of 30 Moonmen, making her the most-awarded artist in the history of the VMAs.
During the ceremony on September 11, Swift accepted the award for “Fortnight,” a track from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, released on April 19. In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to her collaborators, including actors Ethan Hawk and Josh Charles, who made special appearances in the music video she directed.
She also acknowledged Post Malone for his contribution to the song and thanked cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and production designer Ethan Tobman, who collaborated with her on the Eras Tour.
As Swift held the Moonman trophy, her supporters cheered her on from the audience.
In her speech, Swift shared insights about the making of the “Fortnight” video, stating, “The thing is that this video seems very sad when you watch it, but it actually was like the most fun video to make.” She revealed that a standout memory from the shoot was the encouragement she received from her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.
Swift noted, “Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot.”
Swift also took a moment to thank her dedicated fans, known as Swifties, for their unwavering support, which she credited for the success of her Eras Tour and her recent album.
In addition to the Video of the Year award, Swift won six other accolades at the event, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Collaboration, Song of the Summer, and Best Editing.
With seven wins out of her twelve nominations, Swift has officially surpassed Beyoncé, becoming the most-awarded artist in VMAs history. Swift now holds 30 Moonmen, while Beyoncé has 26, according to Billboard.
