In a surprising revelation, Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif, the stars of Aanand L. Rai’s film Zero, expressed their desire to play each other’s characters in the movie. Released in 2018, Zero was an ambitious project for the trio, showcasing performances that, despite the film’s commercial failure, received acclaim from audiences.
During the film’s promotion, Anushka Sharma shared a video featuring the cast and director taking an oath to speak only the truth. In this video, Shah Rukh Khan revealed that he admired Katrina’s character, Babita Kumari, and wished he could portray her role. He expressed a desire to experience the glamorous lifestyle of a star surrounded by fans and luxurious attire.
Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, admitted that she not only wanted to play Aafia, Anushka’s character, but also cried to director Aanand L. Rai to secure the role. Anushka added that she had hoped to portray Bauaa, Shah Rukh’s character, because of the way he interacted with his family and friends.
In an interview with Midday, Katrina recalled her determination to play Aafia. After the script narration, she approached Rai, saying, “Sir, let me do that.” However, he informed her that the roles were already cast.
Undeterred, Katrina recorded an audition for Aafia and showed it to Rai, who appreciated her effort and promised to consider it.
Despite their initial wishes, all three actors ended up playing characters they had not originally wanted. However, their performances were praised, demonstrating Rai’s vision and effective casting choices.
Zero remains a notable part of their careers, showcasing their versatility as actors.
