Johnny Depp, known for his successful acting career, has also maintained a keen interest in music throughout his life. Despite initially betting on his band The Kids making it big, Depp eventually found fame as a cinematic superstar after Nicolas Cage suggested he try acting.
Depp has collaborated with various musicians, including Oasis, Iggy Pop, and Aerosmith, and is a member of the supergroup Hollywood Vampires. However, he is not the only performer to have conquered both the acting and music worlds.
Frank Sinatra, often considered the benchmark for success in both film and music, has left an indelible mark on Depp. “For me, Frank Sinatra was a great, uncompromising artist,” Depp told Film Scouts. “He made an incredible contribution to music. I didn’t know him personally, but I’ve been in the same room with him, and he was an awesome figure. He was an incredible man.”
Sinatra’s achievements are truly remarkable, having won an Academy Award, four Golden Globes, and 11 Grammys. He was an A-list megastar of Hollywood’s Golden Age and a prolific singer who recorded and released dozens of albums, making him one of the bestselling musical artists of all time.
Depp acknowledges that while he is not Sinatra, the legendary performer has served as a blueprint for artists who excel in multiple disciplines. Being an actor and a singer is not necessarily an either/or proposition, but rather a potential dual-pronged and full-time livelihood with no limits on either pursuit.
