Netflix has released a first look at Season 2 of The Sandman, showcasing Norse gods Thor, Loki, and Odin, as well as a family dinner featuring the Endless. This season will adapt the “Season of Mists” storyline from Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel.
In the upcoming season, Gwendoline Christie returns as Lucifer, who abdicates the throne of Hell. This change puts Dream (Morpheus) in charge, leading to chaos as various immortals compete for power, hoping Dream will grant them access to Hell.
The Banquet Scene
The sneak peek shows Thor (Laurence O’Fuarain), Loki (Freddie Fox), and Odin (Clive Russell) attending a banquet hosted by Dream.
Executive producer and showrunner Allan Heinberg describes this gathering as an event for “all the visiting deities and gods and fairies.”
New Cast Members
Season 2 introduces several new characters:
Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Dream’s son.
Douglas Booth as Cluracan.
Ann Skelly as Nuala.
Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas, the dog.
Jack Gleeson as Puck.
Indya Moore as Wanda.
Dream’s siblings also return, including Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Prodigal (Barry Sloane), and twins Desire and Despair played by Mason Alexander Park and Donna Preston.
Controversy Surrounding Neil Gaiman
The featurette includes interviews with Tom Sturridge, Heinberg, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and director Jamie Childs. However, Neil Gaiman is absent from the clip due to recent allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denies. Following these accusations, several adaptations of his works have been paused or canceled.
Despite this controversy, The Sandman Season 2 is still in production and is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025. The official description states that it follows a Siamese cat dreaming of a new world and a writer seeking inspiration who cross paths with Morpheus.
Success of Season 1
The first season of The Sandman premiered on August 5, 2022, quickly becoming a top show on Netflix. As anticipation builds for Season 2, fans can expect more adventures in the dream realm with new characters and storylines.
