Kim Kardashian visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego on Saturday, engaging in discussions about prison reform with a group of inmates, including Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Accompanying her were her sister Khloe Kardashian, mother Kris Jenner, film producer Scott Budnick, and actor Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik Menendez in the Netflix series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”
The Menendez brothers gained notoriety after they were convicted of murdering their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez, in 1989. They are currently serving life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Recently, Erik Menendez criticized the Netflix series for its portrayal of him and his brother, calling it “ruinous” and suggesting that creator Ryan Murphy’s depiction lacks accuracy and good intent. His statement was shared on social media by his wife, Tammi Menendez.
Kardashian has previously collaborated with Murphy on “American Horror Story” and is known for her advocacy work in prison reform. She frequently visits correctional facilities to learn about rehabilitation programs, sharing her experiences on various platforms, including her family’s reality TV shows and at events like Variety’s Justice Reform Summit.
Earlier this year, Kardashian had a conversation with “Monsters” star Chloë Sevigny, who plays Kitty Menendez. During their discussion for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, they reflected on the challenges of portraying the Menendez family. Kardashian mentioned her personal connection to the case, recalling how her father had taken her by the house where the events occurred.
Sevigny expressed concerns about the ethical implications of their roles in true crime narratives, stating that it can be mentally exhausting to navigate the responsibilities toward both victims and perpetrators.
TMZ was the first outlet to report on Kardashian’s visit to the correctional facility.
