Comedian D.L. Hughley has sharply criticized Janet Jackson following her remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris’s racial identity. In a post on X, Hughley expressed his outrage, stating, “#JanetJackson’s interview sounded like a #Trump rally! It’s ironic to question someone’s Blackness while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman!”
Hughley’s response came after Jackson speculated about Harris’s race in an interview with The Guardian, where she claimed, “She’s not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. Her father’s white.” Jackson later appeared to apologize for her comments, but her representative revealed that the apology was issued without her authorization, leading to the rep’s dismissal.
Reactions to Hughley’s remarks were mixed, with some supporting his stance while others criticized him for targeting Jackson personally. In further posts, Hughley continued his critique, saying, “#KamalaHarris looks the way she does because she has a mother from India and a father from Jamaica! #JanetJackson looks the way she does because she has a plastic surgeon!”
Hughley added, “All I know is #Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet doesn’t look like she did when she was Penny!” referencing Jackson’s role in the 1970s sitcom Good Times. A representative for Hughley stated he would not comment further on the matter.
