Elon Musk has firmly denied any romantic involvement with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This denial comes after Musk praised Meloni at an awards ceremony in New York, where he referred to her as “beautiful.”
On Wednesday, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his relationship with Meloni. He stated, “I was there with my Mom. There is no romantic relationship whatsoever with PM Meloni,” alongside a photo of the two looking at each other during a gala dinner.
At the event on Monday, Musk presented Meloni with the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council. During his speech, he described her as “someone who is even more beautiful inside than outside” and characterized her as “authentic, honest, and thoughtful.” Meloni responded by calling Musk a “precious genius” and delivered a passionate speech about Western values, prompting applause from Musk, who was seated next to his mother.
Musk and Meloni have met several times over the past year. They share concerns about declining birth rates in the West and the potential of artificial intelligence. Musk has visited Italy multiple times and even participated in a festival for Meloni’s political party in December.
In recent months, Musk has publicly supported former President Donald Trump for the upcoming U.S. election. He has also backed other right-wing figures, including Argentina’s Javier Milei and Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro.
Meloni addressed the timing of Musk’s introduction at the award ceremony, stating that it was planned months in advance and was unrelated to the American election campaign or Musk’s support for Trump. She expressed her disapproval of any attempts to involve Italy in U.S. politics, emphasizing her stance against foreign interference in sovereign nations’ affairs.
Musk’s comments come a year after Meloni announced her separation from Andrea Giambruno, her partner of ten years. The couple shares a seven-year-old daughter named Ginevra.
