The Korean crime-comedy-thriller I, The Executioner, a sequel to the 2015 hit Veteran, continued its strong performance at the South Korean box office. In its third weekend, it earned $3.03 million, maintaining the top position ahead of the new release Transformers One.
According to data from Kobis, the film captured a 53% market share.
Since its release on September 13, I, The Executioner has grossed a total of $47 million, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of the year in South Korea. It trails behind Exhuma, The Roundup:
Punishment, and Inside Out 2, which leads with $64 million.
Transformers One opened with $917,000 over the weekend, achieving a 16% market share. Its total gross for the full five-day opening period reached $1.43 million.
The re-released film Begin Again came in third place, earning $269,000 over the weekend. Its cumulative total, including its initial run in 2014, now exceeds $21 million.
Heartsping: Teenieping of Love continued to solidify its status as the highest-grossing Korean animated film of all time. It earned $211,000 over the weekend, bringing its total to $7.83 million since its release on August 3.
In fifth place by revenue, though ranked tenth locally due to lower ticket sales, was Jung Kook I Am Still, a concert film featuring BTS member Jung Kook.
Other films had minimal impact on the box office rankings. Bread Barbershop: The Birth of the Bread Star secured sixth place with $130,000 and a cumulative total of $1.30 million.
Overall, I, The Executioner remains a strong contender in South Korea’s competitive box office landscape as it continues to attract audiences.
