Julia Roberts and Eric Roberts’ relationship has taken a turn for the worse, fueled by revelations in Eric’s new memoir, Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far. Sources indicate that the book has reignited tensions between the two siblings, who already had a strained relationship.
Eric Roberts, known for his roles in films like The Dark Knight, claims in his memoir that Julia is unaware of many details about his life. A friend of Julia’s shared that she feels Eric’s use of her life story to promote his book is “unforgivable,” although she has chosen not to confront him directly. Instead, she reportedly prefers to avoid any communication with him altogether.
In the past, Eric has publicly apologized to Julia for taking credit for her success. However, he has also criticized her performance in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias, stating that while she excelled in Mystic Pizza and Pretty Woman, he did not think she was as strong in Steel Magnolias. He wrote, “I don’t want to sound like an actor talking or a jealous sibling, but I don’t think her performance held up in that movie.”
Eric’s memoir reveals more than just family dynamics; it also delves into his tumultuous upbringing and struggles with addiction. He describes their father as a “screwed-up individual” who was jealous of Eric’s career and prone to violent outbursts. After their parents’ divorce, Eric lived with their father while Julia stayed with their mother.
The memoir serves as a public apology to Julia for past remarks he made about her career. He acknowledges that his drug addiction negatively impacted his relationships with both Julia and their half-sister Nancy Motes. He reflects on how his actions during his addiction created an unsafe environment for his sisters.
Eric hopes that by sharing his story, he can mend some of the rifts in his family. He expresses a desire to be a better brother and father, emphasizing that it is never too late to recover from past mistakes. His memoir is now available for readers interested in the complexities of his life and relationships.
