During a recent live performance, Jelly Roll dedicated his unreleased song, “Winning Streak,” to a fan celebrating seven years of sobriety. The Antioch native shared this heartfelt moment in a TikTok video, where he pointed out the fan holding a sign that read, “From: Columbus, Ohio. 7 years SOBER #wedorecover!! Shoutout to Jelly Roll!!” The sign also featured a hand-drawn heart and the phrase, “God reached way down in the bottom.”
After noticing the sign, Jelly Roll paused his show to congratulate the fan on his significant achievement. He explained to the audience that moments like these motivate him and are part of why he testified before the Senate Banking Housing and Urban Affairs Committee in Washington, D.C., on January 11. He spoke in support of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s bipartisan Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act.
“Those are the kind of signs and stories that inspire me,” Jelly Roll said.
“That’s why I went to Washington, D.C., to address the fentanyl epidemic.”
He promised his audience that as long as he has a platform, he will advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. “I will always be a voice for the voiceless,” he declared.
Jelly Roll then announced that he would dedicate his next performance of “Winning Streak” to the fan in honor of his milestone. “I wasn’t going to sing this song, but I saw that sign, and I’m dedicating this to you,” he said. The song reflects the journey of someone experiencing their first day sober.
Recently, Jelly Roll performed “Winning Streak” along with his new song “Liar” during the 50th season premiere of “Saturday Night Live.”
Surrounded by a choir and instrumentalists, he delivered a powerful rendition that highlights the struggles of overcoming addiction through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
The lyrics capture the emotional turmoil faced by those battling addiction:
“And I’ve been losing myself / I’ve been losing my mind / And I’ve been standing in the rain just trying to stay dry.”
Both songs will appear on Jelly Roll’s upcoming album, Beautifully Broken, set to release on October 11. The album aims to explore themes of resilience and honesty while reflecting Jelly Roll’s personal experiences.
“I think we’re all a little broken,” he said during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “But it’s about finding beauty in that. We used Kintsugi as our inspiration—if something is worth saving when it breaks, they bring it back together with gold.”
Jelly Roll is currently on his 2024 Beautifully Broken Tour, which features stops at arenas across the U.S. He will be joined by special guests Warren Zeiders, Alexandra Kay, ERNEST, Shaboozey, and Allie Colleen on select dates.
