Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about managing online criticism during her divorce from Ben Affleck, acknowledging that while she has learned to deal with negativity, some comments still affect her. In an interview with Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine, Lopez, 55, reflected on the challenging summer when her “whole world exploded” due to her very public divorce.
Lopez admitted she is aware of the online chatter regarding her personal life and how some people have tried to blame her for the breakup. “I know everything that’s been written and said about me. The conjectures about who I am are not accurate,” she stated during the interview on September 10.
Having spent years in the public eye, Lopez emphasized that she has learned not to take online opinions too seriously. She believes that as long as her family and friends understand who she truly is, the opinions of strangers do not matter.
As a mother of 16-year-old twins Emme and Max, Lopez explained that a long career in showbiz requires learning how to handle criticism. She pointed out that people who dislike her for no reason do not impact her life as an artist. What matters most to her is creating work that inspires others, regardless of commercial success.
Lopez shared a mantra that has helped her through tough times: “Keep on swimming,” a line from Finding Nemo. She noted that anything outside of singing, dancing, acting, or creating holds little meaning for her.
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, marking the second anniversary of their wedding in Georgia. The couple had spent much of the summer apart, with Lopez in New York and Affleck in Los Angeles focusing on his career.
The couple married twice in 2021—first in Las Vegas and then in a ceremony with family and friends at Affleck’s estate. They were previously engaged in the early 2000s but split due to intense media scrutiny.
In her divorce filing, Lopez listed April 26, 2024, as their date of separation and requested to revert to her maiden name. Before finalizing the divorce, they must divide their assets, including their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion.
Despite their personal relationship ending, Lopez and Affleck remain connected professionally; he is producing two of her upcoming films—Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
