A new spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory” is in development at Max, and it has announced its first three cast members: Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman.
Sources tell Variety that all three actors will reprise their roles from the original series, which was first revealed to be in development back in April 2023. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the show remains in the early stages and has not yet been officially greenlit.
Posehn, Sussman, and Lapkus are currently under talent holding deals.
Chuck Lorre, co-creator of “The Big Bang Theory,” will serve as executive producer for the new project through his production company, Chuck Lorre Productions. He has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the series.
Kevin Sussman is best known for his role as Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner who joined the show in its second season and became a series regular. He appeared in over 80 episodes, including the series finale. Brian Posehn portrayed Bert Kibbler, a geologist at Caltech who had a crush on Amy (played by Mayim Bialik). He appeared in 15 episodes starting from Season 6.
Lauren Lapkus played Denise, Stuart’s assistant and love interest, appearing across eight episodes in Seasons 11 and 12.
Posehn has also starred in shows like “Mr. Show with Bob and David” and “New Girl.” He is a two-time Emmy nominee for his writing work on “Mr. Show.” Lapkus is known for her roles in “Orange Is the New Black” and “Jurassic World,” while Sussman has appeared in “Ugly Betty” and films like “Sweet Home Alabama.”
If this new spinoff moves forward, it will be the fourth series in the “Big Bang Theory” franchise. The original show ran for 12 successful seasons on CBS, while its prequel series, “Young Sheldon,” concluded its seven-season run in May 2024. A new spinoff titled “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” featuring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, is set to premiere on CBS on October 17.
As of now, fans are eagerly awaiting more updates about this potential new addition to the beloved franchise.
