Disney has announced summer 2025 as a big season for family films, featuring the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch and the sequel to Freaky Friday.
Lilo & Stitch will be released in theaters on May 23, 2025, while Freakier Friday is set for August 8, 2025. Both films were showcased at this year’s D23 Expo, where the title of the Freaky Friday sequel and a first look at the new CGI version of Stitch were revealed.
In the live-action Lilo & Stitch, young actress Maia Kealoha plays Lilo Pelekai. This remake comes 23 years after the original animated film. It retains the Hawaiian setting and follows Lilo and her older sister Nani as they encounter the mischievous alien Stitch. Sydney Agudong stars as Nani, with Chris Sanders returning to voice Stitch. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, and Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original film.
The sequel to Freaky Friday sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning 22 years after their original roles in the body-swap comedy.
They are joined by familiar faces like Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, and Christina Vidal Mitchell. New cast members include Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Julia Butters.
The plot of Freakier Friday picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) experienced their identity crisis. Now, Anna has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As their families merge, Tess and Anna face new challenges, discovering that they might just find magic again in their lives.
