“Alien: Romulus” is set to invade homes starting October 15, when it becomes available on digital platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. This marks the seventh entry in the iconic “Alien” film series, which has spanned 45 years. Following its digital release, the film will be available in physical formats—4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD—on December 3.
In a behind-the-scenes clip, actress Aileen Wu shares her experience filming a chest-bursting scene. “I really have the easiest job,” she says, explaining that her role involved lying still and screaming. She also discusses the special effects used to create the terrifying moment, including a fake torso and a team of puppeteers.
Directed by Fede Álvarez, “Romulus” follows a group of young laborers who scavenge parts from an abandoned spaceship. Their discovery unleashes a colony of facehuggers that had been stored for research.
The film features a talented cast, including Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, and Spike Fearn.
The physical release will come in a limited edition SteelBook with custom artwork and bonus features. These include interviews with Álvarez and Ridley Scott, behind-the-scenes footage, and alternate scenes. Additionally, fans can purchase a digital bundle that pairs “Romulus” with the original “Alien” film to celebrate its 45th anniversary.
Bonus Features Include:
The Director’s Vision: Insight into Álvarez’s collaboration with Scott.
Creating the Story: Exploration of inspirations and Easter eggs from previous films.
Casting the Faces: Profiles of the cast and their character connections.
Constructing the World: A look at practical sets and creature designs.
Inside the Xenomorph Showdown: Behind-the-scenes of the film’s climactic zero-gravity sequence.
“Alien”: A Conversation: A special discussion between Scott and Álvarez.
Alternate / Extended Scenes: Footage not included in the final cut.
With its Halloween release timing for digital platforms and a physical release during the holiday shopping season, “Alien: Romulus” aims to capitalize on its popularity following a successful theatrical run. The film has grossed over $342 million worldwide against an $80 million budget.
