Netflix has unveiled a new poster and trailer for Tyler Perry’s upcoming historical drama, The Six Triple Eight. The film is based on Kevin M. Hymel’s article, “Fighting a Two-Front War,” and stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams. Adams was the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the first and only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during World War II.
The cast includes a talented ensemble featuring Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Jay Reeves, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, Susan Sarandon, and Oprah Winfrey.
The Six Triple Eight tells the story of the 6888th Battalion, which played a crucial role in the war by sorting through a backlog of undelivered mail. This unit helped boost morale by delivering over 17 million pieces of mail to American soldiers stationed far from home. Despite facing racism and sexism, these brave women were determined to serve their country with honor.
Tyler Perry wrote and directed the film, highlighting the struggles and triumphs of these unsung heroes. The film aims to shed light on their dedication and resilience during a challenging time in history.
Perry’s script is inspired by a 2021 article published in WWII History magazine. In March 2022, President Joe Biden awarded the 6888th Battalion with the Congressional Medal of Honor for their contributions.
The Six Triple Eight is set to premiere on Netflix soon. Fans can look forward to more updates as the release date approaches.
