Eagle-eyed fans of Saturday Night Live noticed a technical issue before Stevie Nicks’ second performance on the show. The problem was quickly resolved, but not before it sparked a flurry of online comments.
During the 50th anniversary season episode, which featured host Ariana Grande and included impersonations of Oasis, the glitch occurred just as Grande was about to reintroduce Nicks for her next song. The show displayed a billboard of Nicks for about 50 seconds while technicians worked on the issue, followed by a commercial break. Once the problem was fixed, Grande introduced Nicks again.
As the iconic guitar intro for “Edge of Seventeen” began, viewers saw Nicks adjusting her mic pack, but this did not affect her performance.
This appearance marked Nicks’ return to SNL after 41 years. She first performed on the show in December 1983, singing “Nightbird” and “Stand Back” after her tour for The Wild Heart. The host at that time was comedian Flip Wilson.
Nicks is also known for a memorable parody performed by Lucy Lawless in 1998, where she humorously announced her project titled “Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup.” Lawless later shared that she didn’t understand the joke and even approached SNL creator Lorne Michaels to express her concerns. However, Michaels insisted that it was a keeper.
In her recent performances, Nicks sang her new single “The Lighthouse,” which addresses women’s rights following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She also performed her classic hit “Edge of Seventeen.”
Despite the brief technical hiccup, Nicks’ performances were well-received, reminding audiences of her lasting impact on music.
